Christendom College Claims 2024-2025 President's Cup
Christendom College is the winner of the USCAA's 2025 President's Cup, as announced by the USCAA this week. The award, which is given to the athletic department that scores the best in academic performance in the association, is Christendom's fourth in the past six years.
Over the course of the past academic year, Christendom's student-athletes worked hard to achieve success both on and off the field. Overall, Christendom's varsity sports teams achieved a cumulative GPA average of 3.51 for the 2024-25 season, with the senior class leading the way with an average GPA of 3.61.
In addition, 40 total Christendom student-athletes earned USCAA National Academic All-American honors. To be named an Academic All-American, an athlete must achieve a 3.5 cumulative GPA, all while participating in a varsity sport. While participating in a varsity sport is demanding, these students showed the ability to prioritize their studies and balance commitments — a trademark of Christendom's athletic program.
This year's USCAA National Academic All-Americans include Cate Brezinsky, Regina Cousino, Beatrice Stanford, Bernadette Eidem, Mary Pennefather (for both women's soccer and women's basketball), Monica Townsend, Colleen Kosten, Anna Hsu, Catherine Thomas (for both women's soccer and women's basketball), Josie Belleville, Maria Blank, Mary Sabados, Megan Lovar, Miranda Keller (for both women's soccer and women's basketball), Mary Corcoran, Serena Keller (for both women's soccer and women's basketball), Michael Townsend, Sean Corcoran, JP Tsakanikas, Andrew Snyder, Francis Gulick, Chris Cruz, Josua Cruz, Mary Noble, Libby Kolesar (for both women's cross country and women's basketball), Alex Girata, Bridget McCaughey, Regina Bonvissuto, Mary Pennefather, Audrey Speier, Bobby Vander Woude, David Echaniz, Peter Sullivan, Gus Coleman, Luke Roman, and Joe Romero.
In addition, members of the men's rugby team, while not a part of the USCAA, qualified for National Academic All-American honors as well, including Jude Burkett, John Gunthorpe, Thomas Humm, Jacob Kristine, Chris Pascoe, Chris Usher, Nicholas Ward, and Frank Woltering.
The award is the capstone to an incredible year for Christendom Athletics, which saw the women's basketball team win their second national championship title in a row, the women's soccer team finish as national champion runners-up, and the men's rugby team compete once again in the National Collegiate Rugby National Championship Tournament.
The USCAA President's Cup is voted on each year by the USCAA President's Cup committee, which rewards points to institutions based on their rank against other institutions in program GPA, All-Academic award winners (3.5 GPA+ individuals), and overall athletic department GPA.
Since the award's inception in 2018, Christendom has won the award 4 times and placed third and second as well — a testament to the college's strength in balancing sports success with academic excellence.
