Christendom Cruises Past Hampden-Sydney for First Win of Season
Front Royal, Va. – Christendom Rugby turned in a dominant performance on Saturday, defeating Hampden-Sydney 44–14 behind a balanced attack and strong defensive play.
The Crusaders wasted no time setting the tone, opening the scoring with an early try from Jacob Kristine. Momentum continued to build as Christendom added back-to-back tries from Mark Patryn and Michael Lewis. A penalty kick conversion from Luke Ethridge capped the first-half surge, giving the Crusaders a commanding 22–0 advantage.
Hampden-Sydney responded with a try just before halftime to cut the deficit to 22–7, then struck again early in the second half to make it 22–14. That would be as close as the Tigers would get, however.
Christendom's offense reignited with another try from Patryn, followed by one from Nate Shelly. Jimmy Coffey then sealed the victory with two tries of his own, putting the match out of reach and closing out the 44–14 final score.
With the win, the Crusaders showcased their depth and composure, outscoring the Tigers 22–0 over the final stretch.
Up Next: The Crusaders travel to Durham, NC to take on Duke on September 19.
