Crusaders Pick Up First Win Against Washington Adventist in PRogram History
Front Royal, VA- In a dominant performance, the Christendom Crusaders defeated the Washington Adventist Shock by a score of 82-45, securing their first-ever win against the Shock in program history. The Crusaders were in control from start to finish, showcasing their strength on both ends of the floor. With this victory, Christendom improves to a perfect 6-0 on the season.
Front Royal, VA- In a dominant performance, the Christendom Crusaders defeated the Washington Adventist Shock by a score of 82-45, securing their first-ever win against the Shock in program history. The Crusaders were in control from start to finish, showcasing their strength on both ends of the floor. With this victory, Christendom improves to a perfect 6-0 on the season.
The Crusaders wasted no time setting the tone in this matchup. They jumped out to a quick 23-10 lead in the first quarter, showing off their sharp shooting and tough defense. Christendom's offense was clicking early, with strong ball movement and excellent shot selection. On the defensive end, they kept Washington Adventist off balance, forcing them into difficult shots. By halftime, the Crusaders had stretched their lead to 44-25, dominating both offensively and defensively.
The second half saw more of the same. Christendom came out of the break with energy, outscoring the Shock 21-10 in the third quarter to take a commanding 65-35 lead. The Crusaders' defense continued to stifle Washington Adventist, while their offense remained efficient and balanced. In the final quarter, the Crusaders coasted to an 82-45 victory, securing their most impressive win of the season so far.
Catherine Thomas (Senior/Corpus Christi, TX) led the way for Christendom with a standout performance, scoring 31 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She also hit five three-pointers, showing her ability to score from all areas of the floor. Thomas was dominant in the paint, using her size and skill to control the game.
Alongside Thomas, Mary Pennefather (Sophomore/Manassas, VA) had an incredible all-around performance, finishing with a triple-double. Pennefather scored 21 points, dished out 12 assists, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Her ability to contribute in every part of the game was key to Christendom's success. She set up her teammates for easy baskets while also pulling down crucial rebounds and scoring when needed.
Miranda Keller (Senior/Harrisburg, PA) also played a huge role in the win, scoring 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds for a double-double. Keller was a constant scoring threat, making plays both inside and outside, and was key in rebounding and limiting second-chance opportunities for the Shock.
The trio of Thomas, Pennefather, and Keller combined for 75 of Christendom's 82 points, and their individual brilliance was the difference in the game. The rest of the team also played well, contributing with solid defense and helping to keep the Shock from getting back into the game.
Defensively, the Crusaders were impressive all night. They held Washington Adventist to just 45 points and forced several turnovers. Christendom dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Shock 46-23. This rebounding advantage limited Washington Adventist's opportunities and kept the Crusaders in control throughout the game.
This victory was another strong showing for the Crusaders, who are building momentum as one of the top teams in the USCAA, currently ranked at #2.
