Kate Smith Named Women's Basketball Head Coach
Front Royal, Va. — Christendom Athletics has announced the hiring of Kate Smith as the next head coach of the Lady Crusaders women's basketball program.
A four-year student-athlete at Christendom College and former assistant coach for the program, Smith steps into the head coaching role after helping guide the Lady Crusaders to continued success on the court. Her familiarity with the program, leadership experience, and commitment to student-athlete development make her a strong addition to the future of Christendom women's basketball.
Smith most recently served as an assistant coach for the Lady Crusaders, helping lead the team to an 11-7 record during the 2025-26 season and a berth in the USCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Tournament. Her contributions on the sidelines played an important role in the program's competitive growth and postseason success.
Before beginning her coaching career, Smith was a standout player for Christendom. In her senior season in 2022-23, the Lady Crusaders earned the first national tournament appearance in program history, marking a significant milestone for Christendom women's basketball.
Individually, Smith earned Second Team NSAC All-Conference honors and was recognized three times as an Academic All-American, highlighting both her athletic achievements and dedication in the classroom throughout her collegiate career.
"Kate's experience within our women's basketball program, both as a student-athlete and coach, gives her a unique understanding of the culture and mission of Christendom College Athletics," said Athletic Director Patrick Quest. "She has already demonstrated strong leadership and a passion for mentoring her players. We are excited to see her continue building the women's basketball program and leading our Lady Crusaders into the future."
