Mont Alto, Pa. – Christendom College Women's Soccer dropped its season opener on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 in a tightly contested match against Penn State Mont Alto.
The hosts jumped out to an early advantage, scoring in the fifth minute to take a 1-0 lead. Christendom answered back later in the first half when sophomore Ava Hudson found the back of the net off a setup from Grace Hatley, who worked free on the wing and delivered a well-placed pass outside the box that Hudson buried to even the match at 1-1.
Momentum appeared to shift toward the Crusaders following the equalizer, but Mont Alto regained the lead before halftime with a second goal that ultimately proved to be the difference. Despite several quality opportunities in the second half, Christendom was unable to break through again, as the Mont Alto defense held firm to secure the 2-1 result.
With the loss, Christendom opens the season 0-1 and will look to bounce back in its next contest as the Crusaders continue USCAA Division II play.
Up Next: The Crusaders travel to face Penn State New Kensington on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
