Monaca, Pa. – The Christendom volleyball team opened its 2024 season at the USCAA Tipoff Tournament hosted by Penn State Beaver, finishing 1-2 over the weekend against a strong field of competition.
The Crusaders started on a high note Friday with a 3-1 victory over the host Nittany Lions of Penn State Beaver (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-16). Lucy Stahl paced the attack with 13 kills and six aces, while Serenity Fedoryka added six kills on a .357 hitting percentage. Elisabeth Reese tallied 21 assists, and Aimee Simpson led the back row with 15 digs as Christendom secured its first season-opening win since 2021.
Saturday brought a five-set battle with Penn State Greater Allegheny, where the Crusaders fell just short, 3-2 (17-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-22, 15-11). Stahl once again powered the offense with 14 kills and five aces, while Fedoryka turned in a standout performance at the net with 18 kills. Reese set the tone with 39 assists, and Simpson collected 17 digs in the defensive effort.
Christendom closed tournament play against Florida National, dropping a 3-0 decision (25-15, 25-13, 25-12). Despite the result, the Crusaders gained valuable experience against a tough opponent with a deep early-season schedule.
Christendom (1-2) now turns its attention to the next stretch of non-conference play as the Crusaders look to build on the early momentum from their opening weekend.
